Ways to a circular economy: Green Deal in construction
From theory to practice
The construction sector is at the heart of Europe's transition towards a sustainable future. It is responsible for over 35% of the EU's total waste generation and significant greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, 50% of all resources used are used for construction. This makes the sector a key area for implementing the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan. By using resources more efficiently, up to 80% of emissions could be saved, making the construction industry a key contributor to Europe's climate neutrality by 2050.
The event “Circular Economy: Green Deal in Construction” highlights the path from political guidelines to practical applications in the construction industry. It will show how circular economy principles can be used to promote sustainability and innovation. The event is divided into six sections and offers participants valuable insights into the European Green Deal and the action plan for the circular economy.
In addition, the format invites interactive discussions:
- Launch of the circular economy: timeline for the Green Deal
- Framework for a sustainable construction industry
- Circular economy in the construction sector: materials in focus
- Impulse: Wood as a sustainable building material
- Impulse: Innovation meets sustainability – future-oriented materials
- Impulse: Back to the roots – traditional materials such as clay and straw
- Best practice example from the industry
- From theory to application
The last part is dedicated to the central role that materials play in a circular economy. The specific opportunities and challenges of wood, innovative materials and traditional materials will be discussed in small, moderated groups. Participants will actively work on solutions and exchange experiences and ideas. The aim of this interactive format is to bring together different perspectives, identify concrete opportunities for action and provide inspiration for the practical implementation of circular economy principles in the construction sector.
